Description:

Oceanique No. 12. The peninsula of Malaya showing the Island of Dingding, Salangor, Malacca, the Straits of Malacca and the Island of Singapour. Philippe Marie Guillaume Vandermaelen {1795 - 1869} was born in Brussels. He was a cartographer, publisher and globemaker. His Atlas Universel contained 378 maps in 6 volumes. It was lithographed by Henri Ode and published in Brussels 1825-1827. It is thought to be the first world atlas on a uniform scale and the first to be produced by lithography.
