Artist / Author / Cartographer:
A Plan of Peking (Beijing) printed in red ink. It was published in the book The Treaty Ports of China and Japan in 1867. Engraved by a Chinese engraver in Hong Kong.
The plan was published in, "The Treaty Ports of China and Japan", 1867. A note in the Preface states, "Of the maps (also) many are entirely original, and even if regarded only as the pioneers of more complete plans, will possess at least some value". Also, "The type has been set in great part by Chinese compositors, while the maps have all been engraved by natives." The map was therefore done by a Chinese engraver after information provided by the authors.
