An atmospheric view of the Harbour of Hong Kong in the mid 1920s painted by H.G. Gandy. Signed lower right. A junk is sailing through the harbour with the Hong Kong waterfront in the background. The Peak is covered by low clouds.

 

Lieutenant-Colonel Henry George Gandy, R.E., a onetime resident of Hong Kong, also painted the cover art for a book entitled, Hong Kong: Its Beauty and Romance, published by Kelly and Walsh Ltd. in 1926. He had a distinguished military career with the Royal Engineers. He was also a surveyor and an artist. He lived in Hong Kong c.1921 - 1926. Major G.H. Gandy was listed as a member of the Hong Kong Golf Club, 22 Nov. 1924. He was promoted on 22nd Nov. 1924 to Lieutenant Colonel. Left Hong Kong in 1926. In June 1926 he was serving as Commander of the Royal Engineers in Ceylon.
