Date:

c1910

Medium:

postcard

Size:

9 x 14 cm

Description:

An unusual and scarce early postcard of the Signal Station with time ball in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. In the foreground is a brand new sign for Nathan Road.

The first road built on Kowloon was started in 1861. It was named Robinson Road after the 5th Governor of Hong Kong Sir Hercules Robinson. In 1909 the name was changed to Nathan Road after the 13th Governor of Hong Kong Sir Matthew Nathan. This was done in order to avoid confusion with the Robinson Road on Hong Kong Island.
