An attractive map of Guangdong Province from the early part of the nineteenth century. Both Canton and Macao are shown. Hong Kong appears as two islands  but is not named. Both Lamma and Lantao are shown.

Vandermaelen was born in Brussels. He was a cartographer, publisher and globemaker. His Atlas Universel contained 378 maps in 6 volumes. It was lithographed by Henri Ode and published in Brussels 1825-1827. It is thought to be the first world atlas on a uniform scale and the first to be produced by lithography.
