An attractive map of Japan published in 1778 in Venice by Santini. The map is based on the work of the French mapmaker Robert de Vaugondy who published his map in Paris in 1750. Interestingly both Mer du Japon (Sea of Japan) and Mer de Coree (Sea of Korea) appear along the respective countries' coastline. Paolo Santini engraved the plate for this edition.

According to Hubbard this is the second state of this map which was published in 1781. In 1781 economic circumstances forced Santini to sell the plates to Guiseppe Antonio Remondini (1747 - 1811) who continued to publish the atlas until 1804.
