This scarce early plan of Saigon was prepared after an 1864 survey by F. Vidalin and G. Heraud, who were hydro engineers.
It was published in Paris 1878 in , "Passage de Venus. Mission de Saigon." This was a French assignment in an international project to gather data during the 1874 transit of Venus.
