Carte des Isles Philippines
A map of the Philippine Islands originally drawn by the cartographer Felipe Bauza during the Malaspina expedition to the Philippines in 1791. It was engraved by Dhandon and published in Paris in 1808.
Christian Louis Joseph De Guignes {1750 - 1849} learned Chinese from his father Joseph de Guignes who was a reknowned orientalist and sinologist. He spent 17 years as a Consul at Canton before returning to France in 1801. He was author of a book of travel, Voyages a Pekin, Manile et L'ile de France in 1808.
