Description:
A Rare 18th century map of Asia by Paolo Petrini, one of northern Italy's most important mapmakers of the first half of the 18th century.
The few examples of the map that have appeared on the market have been cataloged with publication dates of 1700-1717. This example is dated in the plate as 1766. This was would seem to post-date Petrini's active career, which lasted from 1692 to 1748.
The source of the map was probably De Rossi's Asia, which in turn was derived from Nicolas Sanson's projection of Asia.
Condition Description
A late impression with splits in the copperplate appearing along a few lines of latitude and longitude.
