A detailed ordnance survey map of Cheung Chau and other coastal features to the south west of Hong Kong and the south of Lantau Island.
Cheung Chau due to its shape has a nickname, dumbbell island. It has a longer history and higher density of population than most of the other islands around Hong Kong. In the 19th century more people lived on junks than on land and fishing was the main occupation.
A small detail of Lantau Island in the top corner shows the villages of Pui O, San Tsun and Ham Tin. Below and across from Cheung Chau is Tai Long with a bay and a beach. In the 1980s there was a pub called the Frog and Toad in Tai Long which was a popular destination for junk trips as well as taking a ferry across from Cheung Chau.
In the upper right hand corner part of Lamma Island is shown with the main village of the island, Yung Chu Wan.
