Description:
India quae Orientalis dicitur et Insulae Adiacentis.
A beautiful map of South East Asia with bright original colour published by Blaeu in Amsterdam in the first half of the seventeenth century.
As mapmaker to the V.O.C. or the Dutch East India Company William Blaeu had access to the latest discoveries and information about the region. This map was the most up to date for its time. The cartouche in the lower left is flanked by a knight in armour and a woman in classical costume. Above is the coat of arms of Blaeu's patron, a director of the Dutch East India Company. This map is one of the earliest to show discoveries on both the north and west coasts of Australia.
