Description:
A charming painting of an interior of a Chinese Mandarin's house. He wears a fur lined jacket and the long sleeved clothes his wife and son are wearing suggest that it is winter. The merchant is seated and holds a snuff bottle in his hand. His wife stands to the side holding a long pipe, beside their son who is holding a song bird. Across the lake appears a pavillion with potted flowers beside a walled garden.
The painting was probably made in a Chinese artist's studio in China Street behind the foeign factories in Canton (Guangzhou).
