Description:
Signed lower left, "David Cheng, Hong Kong, 1962." Framed with original label, verso.
View looking out to sea from the beach at Deepwater Bay. The artist would have been standing near the present site of the barbecue area. There is no pathway to Repulse Bay at this time but the small outlying rock has an unmistakable shape and the skyline towards Ocean Park is distinctive.
he Hong Kong artist David Cheng was working in Hong Kong in the 1950s and 1960s. He worked in oils on canvas. In the early 60s he had a studio at 24B New Miramar Arcade, Kowloon. At the same time he was living at 9 Lau Sin Street, Ground Floor, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
Over the past few years his work has started to appear at auction in the UK and USA. These were paintings that were probably bought from his studio about 50 or 60 years ago.
