Description:
An unusual early view of Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon taken in the nineteenth century. This photograph was taken from Signal Hill towards Marine Police Station and the Time Ball at Kowloon Point .
On a chart of Hong Kong Harbour of 1888 by the Hydrographic Office there is a note which states, "The Time Ball is dropped at 1 pm Hong Kong Meantime corresponding to 17hrs 23 mins 18.33 sec. Greenwich Mean Time."
The beach and bay were later reclaimed and became the site for the Peninsula Hotel and Salisbury Road.
