Description:
A two sheet panorama of Hong Kong in the 1870s comprising two unusually large albumen prints.
The picture was taken in Tsim Sha Tsui looking across the harbour towards the city of Victoria and the Peak. To the left is the waterfront of Wanchai and to the right the city of Victoria lies beneath the Peak. The extension on St John's Cathedral has been built. We date the picture to the mid 1870s.

In the early 1990s I sold some photographs to the famous firm of antique dealers Horstmann & Godfrey Limited who had a beautiful shop in Ocean Terminal a few minutes walk from Star Ferry Kowloon. In 1995 they held two exhibitions of Old Photographs of Chinese Cities and published two well researched catalogues. This panorama appears on pages 2 & 3 o their second catalogue, Old Photographs of Chinese Cities II.
