Description:

Philip Adolphe Klier was from Germany and was an an outstanding photographer. He was one of the earliest Europeans to set up a studio in Burma. He started working in Moulmein, one of the larger cities in Lower Burma in 1871. The Illustrated London News of March 1877 described him as a "local artist of considerable repute'. He moved to Rangoon in about 1880 and from 1885 - 1900 he was in partnership with J. Jackson. After that he would work independently.

 

An advertisement in the Rangoon Gazette of March 2, 1887 read: "Portraits taken from 8am to 3pm. Views of Upper and Lower Burma, Moulmain, and the Andaman Islands, also Burmese celebrities and characters of Burmese life."
