1. The Island in 1837
A photograph taken in 1897 of an imaginary panoramic painting of the island of Hong Kong in 1837. The first illustration in a photography book entitled, "Sixty Diamond Jubilee Pictures of Hong Kong" by R.C. Hurley. Published in Hong Kong 1897.
In the introduction Hurley writes, "In publishing, on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of Her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria, the collection of Pictures of Hong Kong, -- the first of which displays the Island in all its primitive bareness and desolation, and the latest of which shows it again in its present extent and magnificence."
