To the rear or the foot of the hills is the Protestant Cemetery.

A fine early photograph of Happy Valley on Race Day. To the right is the grandstand and in the distance is Wong Nei Chong Village. Inside the race track are many people, some with umbrellas to protect them from the bright sun. In the foreground the roads are lined with hawkers, fortune tellers and sedan chairs. The sedan chair was the equivalent of a taxi. In the year 1880 the rickshaw was introduced to Hong Kong fom Japan.

In the distance at the far end of the racetrack is the village of Wong Nei Chung.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club was established in October 1884.
