A charming view of Macau in 1828 which was published as a lithograph in 1840. The view is embellished with charming features like a Chinese Mandarin and lady with two attendants standing on a bluff below Bom Parto Fort. Beyond the Praya Grande sweeps around in a crescent shape towards Guia Hill. Many buidings are shown including San Jose Seminary, St Paul's, before the fire, Monte Fort and San Francisco Fort. In the bay are all manor of boats including sampans, junks, trading boats and flower boats.
Gabriel Lafond, known as Lafond de Lurcy embarked on his second voyage around the world in 1828. He visited Macau in 1828 on this journey and this view would be based on that visit. His voyage was recorded in the rare book Quinze Ans de Voyages autour du Monde, Par le Capitaine Gabriel Lafond (de Lurcy) which was published by Brockhaus et Avenarius, 1840. This beautiful view of Macao was included in this book.
