Description:

The town of Yuen Kiang (Yuanjiang) is in Yunnan Province. The Edinburgh Gazeteer or Geographical Dictionary of 1827 stated that Yuen-Kiang, a city of China, of the first rank, in Yunan, on the Hoti River, in a mountainous but fertile country, abounding with silk and areca. Long.101.44.E. Lat. 23.37.N..

 

Louis Delaporte took part in the 1866-1868 expedition of the Mekong led by Doudart de Lagree, seconded by Francis Garnier. Delaporte was in charge of drawings and the administration of the expedition. He was a French naval officer who also produced charts of Indo-Chine for Depot de la Marine.
