John Cooke Bourne (1814 – 1896) was a well-known English painter and lithographer. Based on a Chinese painting, he produced one of the earliest and most magnificent large plate lithographs of Hong Kong. It is a view of the Island from North Point in 1846. This charming hand-coloured view is not listed in the reference book, The Chater Collection: Pictures Relating to China, Hongkong, Macao, 1655-1860 by James Orange, 1924 and rarely comes on the market.

Framed.
