One of the earliest printed panoramic views of Singapore. It was engraved as an aquatint after a drawing by the British Naval Officer, Captain Robert James Elliot (1790 - 1849).

 

The view shows the town of Singapore from Government Hill, which is already established with a number of buildings and numerous ships in the harbour.

 

Robert James Elliot (1790 - April 30, 1849) was a British naval officer, painter, and topographical draughtsman active in the early 19th century. Elliot is  known to have drawn one of the earliest views of Singapore, which was published as an aquatint in the narrative of John Crawfurd's mission to Siam and Cochin-China in 1828.
